Foster Closet & Care Bags

Foster Closet

Our organization always appreciates the generosity and involvement of people like you, especially when it comes to our Foster Closet! Clothing is a worry that children and teens should never have to be anxious over. The Fostering Family Hope Foster Closet helps provide clothing, shoes, and other basic essentials to children in care free of charge in order to help reduce the out of pocket costs for foster families and reunited families.  The closet houses clothes ranging from sizes Preemie to Teen and also offers special seasonal items like coats and bathing suits. Additionally, we provide cribs, strollers, and other basic needs.  The Foster Closet is a resource where families can find these items in excellent condition in order to eliminate the stigma of foster care.  We believe kids in foster care deserve the WORLD as much as any other kid in it! This closet empowers kids to have the confidence and self-worth that we already see in them.  We rely on excellent condition donations from our local communities to ensure a full and diverse closet.  We are located at 31 Hall Ave, Wallingford 06492.  We are open by appointment only.  Please email us to set up an appointment.

Care Bag Program

The Fostering Family Care Bag Program started when we quickly realized children coming into care came with nothing but the shirt on their back (and it is often in the wrong size!).  With short notice and limited on-hand supplies,  foster families are often running around last minute gathering what they THINK a new child will need.  Our Care Bag program minimizes the stress of preparing for an incoming child by providing all the basic necessities for them.  Each bag includes approximately two pairs of pajamas, three to five outfits, socks & underwear/diapers & wipes, culturally appropriate hair & body care essentials, a book or toy, and an age-appropriate comfort item (stuffed animal, blanket, etc.). These bags are distributed to local foster care agency offices and can also be requested by caseworkers, foster, and relative/kinship families.
